Choose how AI fits your marking workflow
Whether you want AI to score first, assist examiners, or moderate human marks, GradeLab slots into your existing OSM without replacing it.
AI as First Marker
GradeLab scores the script first. Human examiner reviews, overrides, and approves. Fastest throughput for large volumes.
- AI scores first
- Human reviews
- Override controls
- Highest throughput
AI as Examiner Copilot
Examiner opens a response and sees AI-suggested marks, evidence, and rubric alignment. Examiner accepts or adjusts.
- AI suggests marks
- Evidence displayed
- Examiner decides
- Best for complex rubrics
AI as Moderator
Humans mark normally. GradeLab independently re-evaluates and flags large disagreements, anomalies, or incomplete marking.
- Humans mark normally
- AI re-evaluates
- Discrepancy flags
- Best for high-stakes
Your OSM keeps
Scanning & indexing
Your scanning pipeline, script indexing, and anonymization stay as they are. GradeLab does not replace them.
Script allocation
Your examiner allocation, workload distribution, and workflow management remain in your platform.
Examiner identity
Your examiner accounts, roles, and identity management stay. GradeLab operates as a scoring engine behind them.
Result publishing
Your result processing, approval workflows, and publication to institutions remain in your OSM.
GradeLab supplies
Transcription
Handwriting OCR for every response. Text, equations, and diagrams extracted and structured.
AI score suggestions
Per-question marks with rubric alignment, evidence, and confidence scores.
Discrepancy flags
Large disagreements between human and AI marks flagged for review. Anomalous patterns detected.
Feedback generation
Per-criterion feedback, improvement pointers, and evidence citations for each response.
AI for On-Screen Marking FAQ
What are the three AI modes for OSM?
Mode 1: AI as First Marker | GradeLab scores the script first, human examiner reviews and approves. Mode 2: AI as Examiner Copilot | examiner sees AI-suggested marks and evidence alongside the response. Mode 3: AI as Moderator | humans mark normally, GradeLab independently re-evaluates and flags disagreements.
Does the AI replace human examiners?
No. GradeLab is designed to assist, not replace. In all three modes, a human examiner is in the loop. The AI speeds up grading, provides suggestions, and flags issues, but final approval always rests with the examiner.
Can we use AI as a moderator only?
Yes. In Mode 3, humans mark normally without any AI involvement during marking. GradeLab independently re-evaluates afterward and flags large disagreements, anomalous patterns, or incomplete marking. This is ideal for high-stakes exams.
How does discrepancy detection work?
GradeLab independently re-evaluates each response and compares its marks with the human examiner marks. Large disagreements are flagged with evidence. Anomalous patterns (unusual mark distributions, consistent over/under-marking) are detected and reported.
Does GradeLab replace our existing OSM platform?
No. Your OSM keeps scanning, indexing, script allocation, examiner identity, workflow, and result publishing. GradeLab adds the AI scoring layer behind your platform. It is an addition, not a replacement.
What scanning formats are supported?
GradeLab accepts scanned PDFs, JPEGs, and PNGs from any scanner or mobile capture. It works with the output of your existing scanning pipeline | no changes needed to your scanning hardware or process.
