Can the API grade both paper and digital exams?
Yes. The API grades scanned answer sheets from paper-based exams and typed responses from digital exams through the same endpoint. Mixed-format scripts with both handwritten and typed sections are handled in one submission.
How does the API handle mixed-format exam scripts?
The API handles MCQ, short answer, essay, and diagram questions in one submission. Each question type is scored appropriately. Section-wise results are returned with question-level marks, criterion scores, and feedback.
What output does the API return?
The API returns structured JSON with question-level marks, criterion scores, step-wise credit, total marks, per-question feedback, confidence scores, evidence citations, review status, and audit trail including model version.
Does the API support webhooks for async processing?
Yes. Async results are delivered via signed webhooks. You can also poll the status endpoint. Batch up to 500 submissions per call. Idempotency keys ensure safe retries and automatic deduplication.
Can I use my own rubric and model answers?
Yes. You send the question paper, model answers, rubric, and scoring policies alongside student responses. The API applies your marking scheme with criterion-level granularity and supports step marking.
What is the idempotency key for?
Idempotency keys allow safe retries. If you send the same submission twice with the same key, the API deduplicates automatically and returns the original result. This prevents duplicate grading and billing.
